Pet Professional Guild Appoints Westchester County Resident as Cat Committee Chairwoman

(Ossining, NY, January 2, 2017)-The Pet Professional Guild has appointed Ossining resident Paula Garber, owner of LIFELINE Cat Behavior Solutions in Briarcliff Manor, as chairwoman of its Cat Committee.

Garber is a certified animal training and enrichment professional and certified feline training and behavior specialist through the Animal Behavior Institute. She is also certified in low stress handling through Dr. Sophia Yin’s course, Low Stress Handling of Dogs and Cats, and is pursuing a diploma in feline behavior science and technology from the Companion Animal Sciences Institute. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and also serves as an advisor to the board of FurBridge, a non-profit animal rescue and community outreach program in Ardsley. A consummate cat advocate, Garber hosts an annual event for volunteers to build winter shelters for free-roaming cats.

The Pet Professional Guild is a 501(c)6 member organization founded on the principles of force-free training and pet care. Its membership represents pet industry professionals around the world who are committed to force-free training and pet care philosophies, practices, and methods. Pet Professional Guild members understand force-free to mean no shock, no pain, no choke, no fear, no physical force, and that no compulsion based methods are employed to train or care for a pet. The Pet Professional Guild is gaining momentum as the go-to organization for highly skilled, knowledgeable, and educated force-free professionals who understand the science of behavior and how it applies to animal behavior and training.

“I’m honored to have been appointed as chairwoman of the Pet Professional Guild’s Cat Committee,” said Garber. “The aim of our eight-person committee is to educate people on using science-based, force-free training and handling methods with cats in their care. Permanent physical and psychological harm results from methods involving pain, fear, force, and intimidation. Expanding the Pet Professional Guild’s feline resources to help people learn effective behavior modification, handling, and training techniques to improve cat welfare and strengthen the human-cat bond is one of my primary goals as chairwoman.”

Paula Garber is the owner of LIFELINE Cat Behavior Solutions in Westchester County. She provides private, in-home cat training and behavior consulting services, and offers classes in kitten socialization and cat-handling techniques to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress.
