During one week in mid March of 2012, a couple of things were noticeably different on our block: there was a cat carrier with no door in front of our neighbors house who doesn’t own any cats, and there was a beautiful white cat who suddenly appeared that no one had seen before. This cat was different from the other ones in our neighborhood because he was completely white with only black markings on his forehead on his tail. He was also different because he remained in the same spot, without mingling with the other cats, for about week. During this time the neighbors and my family tried to get him to eat or drink water, but he didn’t move an inch. Fearing that he was injured, we decided to take him in. It was on our first vet visit that we learned that he had likely been abandoned because he was already neutered and had no calluses on his paw pads. After a few weeks, we decided we would foster him to adopt him to another family, and had decided to name him Sam after Andy Warhol’s cats. In October of that year, we could not find a family for Sam and he had become such a big part of our home that we decided to keep him.
