I am looking for about 6 copies of the issue from June/July. This would be the dog park issue. I am on the dog park committee for the City of Shelton and wanted the folks on the committee with me to have a copy of your publication. The dog park articles were great and had some good guidelines for the parks.

As per our phone conversation, I am requesting 100-125 copies of the Pet Gazette to put into our “doggie bags” at our fundraiser on November 7th – Rescues Rock the Runway! It is a pet fashion show being organized to raise money to pay for medical care for the pups we take into foster care. I believe I received a copy of your magazine at an event held at Doggie U earlier this year and just came upon it while cleaning up my desk at work.

I have recently discovered your magazine and as a representative from the Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross, I am interested in finding out what type of advertising opportunities are available through your magazine. Here at the Red Cross, we offer a variety of Pet First Aid supplies including Pet First Aid Kits, Books and DVDs along with a variety of other information for pet owners and pet businesses. I would be interested in finding out more information about publishing our services and information for pets in your bimonthly magazine. Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you.

I picked up your August/September ’09 edition and love it! This is my Shante….best friend and soul mate for 16+ years. The doc says she has CRF but we are staying positive and she is doing well thanks to Dr. Kearns and his wonderful, caring staff at Countryside Animal Hospital in Port Jefferson. I would love to see her beautiful face in the Pet Gazette. Send positive thoughts! Thanks,

We do a comprehensive search as to where we should best pitch our pet clients, and you are a publication on our ongoing pet media contact list. Will you be able to use any of the information I have sent you? Please let me know if you need any more information or product samples. I look forward to working with you.

We have been having some dog fights and in some cases, human fights regarding their dogs being attacked by other dogs. You ran a great story several issues back regarding dog park recognition and behavior. Is that issue accessible online or only hard copy? I would love to get a plastic dispenser and display copies of this edition for people so they can try and learn how to behave in a dog park setting.

I got a nice listing from my ad in The Pet Gazette and so, now I feel like I can afford to renew. I’m strapped, as are all agents, but would like to reduce to ¼ ad, and re-use the same one I ran last year. Can you let me know if/how we can do it as a ‘pay as you go’ kind of plan, or a couple of issues at a time?

I finally got over to Snowflake to pick up a copy of the magazine. Thanks also for including the press release for AVR. We have had two inquiries from it. On another note, if you want me to distribute Pet Gazette to the New England Fed conference in two weeks, please send me a bunch of them and I will place them in the attendees conference bags. We have about 225 registrations as of this date. I will need them by Saturday

I just finished reading the Aug- Sept 09 issue and thought this is a fabulous idea! A paper dedicated to local people about their dogs! I work for an animal shelter on long island and really am very passionate about all animals. I don’t know if you have availability at your facility at this time for employment but, I thought I’d introduce myself anyway. Please review my resume attached if your are interested. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do so.

Was at the Intrepid dog park and picked up your great magazine! I saw that you featured local dogs on one of the pages and wanted to pass on this photo of my Ella. Everyone always says how happy she looks so this is one of many smiling photos. She is a 5 yr old Golden mix that I adopted from Crossing Paths Pet Rescue in PA. She had a real tough start to life but now is with us and is livin it up NYC style. I love her more than words.

Just wanted to touch base. I’m attaching the Flyer that we are distributing for the Responsible Dog Ownership Day for you information. Would like to give us some copies of your September issue to distribute at the event? Let me know and I’ll figure out some way to get them. In addition, do yo have any interest in dong an article about us, the AKC, and RDOD? BTW-I tried to get the folks from the new Trumbull Dog Park to attend our event and use your issue about Dog Parks as the foundation for “Doggie Etiquette” (along with other sources). The President was not familiar with The Pet Gazette. I sent her a copy. They are unable to participate in RDOD but plan on doing their own event in the future.Let me know about distributing your magazine and maybe an article.

Hi Mr. Dempsey – Thank you for returning my call . The TFKC will be holding an AKC sponsored Responsible Dog Ownership Day this September in Trumbull. I had called to find out your deadline for having an announcement put in the Pet Gazette. As with any committee, it takes us time to get all the details settled. The event is September 20th. Is it possible to get an announcement published, when would you need it? I am currently working on a flyer (8.5 x11 size). Is there a cost for an announcement? Is there a cost for publishing the flyer? We are a non-profit organization. By the way, we are looking for vendors to participate. I’ve used your magazine (the ads) as a source for our database. Any businesses that you think might be interested in buying a booth (very low cost) would be most appreciated. Thanks – Arlene

Diane Yatauro, the Presiding Officer of the Nassau County Legislator, has asked me to contact you regarding the submittal of articles and photos from our press office. Please let me know the kind of topics you usually cover in the Pet Gazette and if we can email you jpeg photos. We currently have a wonderful press release and photo regarding a Nassau County Police Department K-9 Unit dog, Thunder (whom I call Thunder the Wonder Dog), who was able to collar two criminals using his unique abilities. Our Presiding Officer is also very active with the Glen Cove Animal Lovers League in their efforts to humanely address the feral cat situation in that city. Please let me know if these are the kinds of topics you would consider for your publication.

EFT is best described as “needleless accupuncture”. I come to your home or do distance treatments.I’ve been reading your publication from the beginning and have always enjoyed it. I generally pick it up at South Wilton Veternary Group. Actually, several years ago you published my letter to them about my ferrets as part of an ad for him. Still have those issues! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Just one more question – do you take credit cards for payment?

Hi! I really enjoy reading the Pet Gazette whenever I’m in the vet’s office. I was just looking through the Feb/Mar. issue and I noticed an ad for the April/May issue. On the ad I noticed a spelling error. I just wanted to let you know before it goes to print. It said “Puppys & Kittens”. “Puppys” should be spelled “puppies”. The teacher in me just had to bring it to your attention.

I picked up your most recent issue of The Pet Gazette (Fairfield) while shopping in Petco, Brookfield, CT. I was hoping to find advertisers who do animal portraits but the only ad was for embroidered photo tapestries. I would like to get a portrait done of my dog, Luci and was hoping that you may have a list of local artists (Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess or Fairfield county) who do them (and come recommended) – preferably in watercolor or pencil/charcoal medium not oil. Any information would be most grateful.

we spoke on the phone re: the artificial sweetener xylitol, in trident gum and other sugar free products, being posonious to dogs. it is even more dangerous than chocolate and can cause liver failure, hypoglycemia, and death if ingested by a dog. i acquired the pet gazette while at my vet’s office–west hills animal hospital, huntington, long island, ny . it would be a good idea to include xylitol on the poison alert list.

As Director of Wildlife Rehabilitation and Animal Care at Earthplace, The Nature Discovery Center, located in Westport, Connecticut, I am writing to request your support with a fundraiser for our animal care programs: a Walk for Wildlife to be held on Sunday, September 27. Would you be able to promote our event in the Pet Gazzette? Maybe in the Tracks section? We also would love to distribute copies of the Pet Gazzete at the event.By the way, I usually see The Pet Gazette at Spencer’s Run, in New Canaan, CT, South Wilton Veterinary Group, and at our local PetCo in Norwalk, CT.Green Chimneys also does wildlife rehabilitation and they have a number of permanent resident raptors. We don’t “work with them, per se”, but I did do an internship with them over 15 years ago in their wildlife rehabilitation program.

As we briefly discussed earlier, PAWS is in the market for vets that can work with us affordably and offer compassionate care. I remember your article a few months back of two vets that opened a new practice in the area. They did not object to home visits. The vet house was in Noroton, New Canaan or Darien or nearby. My memory doesn’t do me justice. Would you be able to forward me the article or just supply the practice’s name and phone number? May I extend an invitation for a tour of PAWS. With an enthusiastic, new Director, Kyle Berkhart, we are pushing forward with interesting programs – an in-house spay/neuter clinic, Seniors for Seniors, PAWS Cares (helping the financially pressed keep their pets healthy) and others that may make for an interesting article(s).

I just called you for information on kennels in the Stamford area. Any help you can give me will be appreciated. We are coming the 30 Th. of May. Due to me never throwing out much, your book was still in my pets file. In 2003 we brought our guy to CT. and because my daughter could not have him at her house she had your book sent to her in Wilton. I boarded my pet at the Dog Gone Smart Kennel which was not that far from her house but this time I would prefer having a kennel closer to the Doubletree in Stamford and the book I have does not show any.

Kudos to David Warren. His article was very informative and to the point about the “cons” of dog parks. Definitely good information that everyone needs to know, and what we try to impart to dog owners here at Bandilane, to keep their dogs safe. Unfortunately we hear lots of scary stories and we sometimes have to undo the damage when things have gone wrong at the dog park. Let’s hope all your readers take David and Lee East’s advice to heart. We will gladly distribute the articles to all of our students and daycare clients!

I am new to the area and picked up a copy of your publication at the Greenwich soap box derby last week. I am looking for a place to board my dog when we travel, and wondered if you had any back issues that may have dealt with this subject. I also was interested in finding local dog parks, as the town of Greenwich does not seem to be particularly dog friendly.Since we are on the border of New York and CT, we could head in either direction with our pet. Mr. Dempsey: As an avid reader of The Pet Gazette, I thought I’d communicate about our beloved golden, Goldie. A petite (45-pound) three-year-old rescue canine, she attracts human attention everywhere we go — from New York City sidewalks to Westchester parks and even Washington, D.C., hotel lobbies. She is especially well known in our local doggie-run at Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where “everyone knows her name.” She’s recognized as the personal trainer to the other dogs because of her habit of running around the oval at breakneck speed to encourage her peers to get active. A spirited and loving pet, she hugs (and sometimes licks) almost anyone who shows her attention or affection. Recently, on a brief tour of the shopping district of Cold Springs Harbor, no less than 30 humans stopped to pet her and ask about her. Everyone comments on her beauty and excellent behavior (which is all in-born since we hardly trained her at all). I’ve attached a photo of her, in case you’d like to run a feature on her and her many antics, the Carl Schurz doggie runs (small dog and large dog areas), and/or even the rescue organization that brought her to us.

I love Pet Gazette! We found our daycare – Bandilane through your publication. Over the last 5+ years our dog Kade has been a Bandilane customer and a grooming client too. I love the articles you provide and the local information relevant to my life as “staff” to a Cairn Terrier (Kade) and a domestic cat (Absalom). As the manager of an independent pet store (Animal Fair) I constantly refer to your magazine to show customers area businesses. We display it prominently in our store and many of our customers come in to pick up the latest issue. Thank you for such a great way to connect pets and people.

I am trying to find a past edition of a Pet Gazette, unfortunately i am unsure of the month/year the issue was from (the cover/ theme of the edition involved “how to start your own shelter/rescue”). I am a subscriber, but misplaces that edition, and it was one of my favorites because it was so informative and relative to my future. Is there any way for me to search through an online archive, or perhaps pdf. files of the issues? Or if you recognize the issue I am searching for, is it possible to have it mailed to me, or any way I could pick it up somewhere?

Ruby is a pit bull mix we’ve had since she was five and a half weeks old. She’s well behaved, friendly, and very lovable. Chevy is a pit mix that we rescued. Like Ruby, he’s well behaved, friendly, and very lovable. Because he’s a rescue, he’s also very obedient and eager to please. Well, put them both together and they LOVE to play, which includes pit bull wrestling. It’s a problem, but even more of a problem because we live on a boat. They were really getting into it one day and I yelled “Ruby! Chevy! Stop wrestling!” Ruby laid down and Chevy just stared at me. “Chevy, SIT!”. And he did.I enjoy your magazine. I picked a copy up at the Taylor Farm dog park.

Thanks so much for your reply. Our Business Development Manager actually found a copy of Pet Gazette at a Whole Foods in Connecticut. I wish we had known about your deadline sooner as I would have gotten you some information on the event. This is an inaugural event so the hope is to continue Canine Carnival each year at Stepping Stones so we’ll be better prepared next year. We’re hoping to see 3-4,000 visitors that weekend.

They are also distributed at all the functions we attend and at our veterinarian ‘s office. Zoe Bear, a 12-year old Yorkie and Pook, 20 year old Tortoise-shell. The older they got, the cozier they became. They passed a couple of years after this photo and are buried side by side in our front garden. We picked up a copy of the Aug/Sept issue of The Pet Gazette, Fairfield in Plumb Library in Shelton. It’s the first I’ve seen, so I’m looking forward to the next issue. There’s a joke that goes along with the article on domestication, noting that more US households have pets than have children…”If you want the patter of little feet, get a pet; you get more feet and they stay little” That particular photo is my wallpaper. The Yorkie was completely blind at that point and the Tortoiseshell had survived 3 cancer surgeries, Tough as nails

As a obedience competitor on Long Island, I usually pick up the most recent copy of your magazine at one of the training centers that I frequent. I am trying to get the word out that the AKC Obedience Advisory Committee is accepting letters, comments & suggestions from 11/1/06 thru 1/31/06. This committee meets only once every four years, so it is imperative that obedience competitors are made aware that if they want something changed in obedience, now is the time to say something!!! I personally am trying to spearhead a movement to do away with the out of site group excercise. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love to see them GO. Being that your magazine is available at the training centers, I was wondering if you might be able to put something in your next issue that would help spread the word. The email address to send correspondance to the Advisory Committee is obedadv@akc.org

I noticed in your last issue of The Pet Gazette you featured a letter from someone who wrote in praising a new book about feral cats called The Cats on My Block. The book was written by one of our staff who works on the NYC Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor’s Alliance, one of our most effective programs for saving lives in NYC. I was wondering if you might want to feature an article about feral cats, trap-neuter-return (TNR), and the work of our NYC Feral Cat Initiative in a future issue of The Pet Gazette. If you are interested, we can either provide you with a finished article or, if you prefer to write it, we can arrange for you to speak with one of our Initiative staff. Let me know if this interests you.

Thank you for taking the time to speak to me the other day. As we discussed, I would like to offer your publication, “The Pet Gazette”, at our annual Tent Event .In addition to raising funds for our Animal Rescue, we will have numerous vendors present as well as dog obedience trainers, pet groomers, and a mobile veterinarian.I chose your magazine mainly for the advertised services that I found very helpful to people in my area. For example, The Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT., is a wonderful place. I have suggested their emergency services to many people and it was great to see an ad for their services as well as directions. You offer some great articles for pet owners as well. I would be glad to come to your office to pick up copies of “The Pet Gazette” for distribution. I would also appreciate your advertising rates.

Dear Pet Gazette Friends Last year you contributed several hundred copies of your publication which we distributed at the event. We hope you can participate once again this year. Once again, The Friends of the East Rumbrook Dog Park in Hartsdale, NY seeks your participation as a sponsor or vendor for our Annual Dog Swim taking place Sunday, September 8 from 10-2 at nearby Anthony Veteran Park. We hold this event in partnership with the Town of Greenburgh and generous sponsors and vendors like you. Your support of this event offers great exposure to several hundred dog-loving folks! It is so much fun to cheer on all of the dogs playing in the swimming pools at the park while their proud pet parents watch, take photos and videos and squeal with delight! This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and proceeds enable us to keep our beloved dog park safe, well maintained and a fun place to visit for dogs and their caretakers. A copy of our dog park brochure is attached. We look forward to having you as a supporter this year. Thank you.

Nice to see this article/map – but you omitted the Redding CT dog park “Mcgee’s Swimmin Hole” located within Topstone Park. This is a small off leash fenced area with access to Topstone lake for the dogs. Access from the parking lot is via the Pond trail and across the dam. Please include it in any future similar articles. Thank you.

I was delighted to read Donna Martuge’s article “Reiki for Pets” in the February/March issue of the Pet Gazette. As a Reiki practitioner for pets (people, too!), I have witnessed countless positive results: some subtle, and some very profound. One of the many benefits of Reiki is that it can be can be done either hands-on or at a distance. An incredible gift of the Universe, Reiki does no harm; animals seem to be drawn instinctively to its healing power. Please keep in mind, as Ms. Martuge points out, Reiki is an excellent complement to conventional therapy.

What I was asking was to have one copy of The Pet Gazette mailed to each building so that we could have it on our shelves. You are welcome to drop off 25 issues for distribution if we could also have an issue to catalog and keep several months on our shelves. The copies for distribution are not seen by the clerks who process magazines and newspapers.

I was just going thru the Feb/March issue. I just want to mention that it would have been a nice addition to both the medical advances article and the Emerging medicine article how Canine Rehabilitation would have complimented both of those articles. That elbow replacement surgery along with all the other orthopedic surgeries go hand in hand with post op rehabilitation. At Pawz For Wellness we work very closely with quite a few surgeons who appreciate our post op care and guidance for their clients. The dog owners need to know these state of the art surgeries don’t just go home after surgery and do nothing, post op rehab is a huge part of the equation for return to function for their furry friends.

I picked up the Pet Gazette today from K-9 Express where I buy my pet supplies and have enjoyed reading it, especially the section on preparing for disasters with your pet. The mission of the Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. is to provide disaster information to Nassau County residents on emergency preparedness. Right now we are going out twice a week to speak at storm conferences at the invitation of the Nassau County legislature. While at the moment we are also focusing on hurricanes, we have been working on developing and distributing information to pet owners for all kinds of disasters since 1999 and would be happy to supply information to a reporter, or help develop on article on specific preparations for common winter time disasters such as house and apartment fires, as well as behavior we should expect from our pets in natural or man made disasters. If you would like to know more about Pet Safe log onto www.petsafecoalition.org. Denise Flaim’s Newsday column of July 31 quoted me on hurrricane preparedness and Hilary Clinton’s new Hurricane Preparedness book mentions the Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. We are working closely with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.

Mr. Dempsey: As an avid reader of The Pet Gazette, I thought I’d communicate about our beloved golden, Goldie.A petite (45-pound) three-year-old rescue canine, she attracts human attention everywhere we go — from New York City sidewalks to Westchester parks and even Washington, D.C., hotel lobbies. She is especially well known in our local doggie-run at Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where “everyone knows her name.” She’s recognized as the personal trainer to the other dogs because of her habit of running around the oval at breakneck speed to encourage her peers to get active.A spirited and loving pet, she hugs (and sometimes licks) almost anyone who shows her attention or affection. Recently, on a brief tour of the shopping district of Cold Springs Harbor, no less than 30 humans stopped to pet her and ask about her. Everyone comments on her beauty and excellent behavior (which is all in-born since we hardly trained her at all).I’ve attached a photo of her, in case you’d like to run a feature on her and her many antics, the Carl Schurz doggie runs (small dog and large dog areas), and/or even the rescue organization that brought her to us.

I just wanted to send you an update on what is happening with the R.E.A.D.ing programs! (Reading Education Assistance Dogs). Your article has generated so much interest. Sue Grey owner of Bone-afide Dog Training in Ridgefield, CT has signed on with the Public Library in North Salem. She has a continuing program at the Easton Public Library and the Ridgefield Public Schools. I am still working with the Hastings Library in Westchester and in Rockland County with the Pearl River Library and the Nanuet School District. Kizzy and I got national recognition in the September issue of Ladies Home Journal as part of a back to school feature article. I am doing workshops at Westchester Community College and Bergen Community College which will now include kids, so they, too can participate in Pet Therapy and R.E.A.D.ing programs!

she loved the article, has saved many copies to distribute amongst her friends and fellow cat advocates… lives in Long Island and was glad to see all of the articles in the Gazette…and mentioned that some towns around her are finally contributing funds to local TNR programs. She also wanted to ‘correct’ me and say that TNR stands for Trap Neuter RETURN… not RELEASE.I have the understanding that it is either/or for the proper terminology… but let her explain her version of it.I thanked her and that was that. Thanks for the forward… it is good to have reader input… makes me want to be a better writer.

I’m catching up today and am finally sending you this note. Thank you very much for including the DAWS information in the October/November issue of The Pet Gazette. Along with our ad, I hope it’s raised the visibility of our November 5th event. I also appreciate your endorsement of our fundraiser! If you’re able to attend this Sunday, we’d be glad to have you and a guest attend as our guests. The event begins at 2pm and goes until 5pm. It’s at La Fortuna in Bethel, CT (37 Stony Hill Road – Route 6). If I don’t hear from you, I’ll put you as a “maybe” on our registration list. Also, I’d like to send in a short article about the event (and a few photos) for consideration for your next issue. What is the deadline for submitting articles?

I am a loyal reader and great fan of the Pet Gazette. Quite a few issues ago, there was one dedicated to training and trainers. I put it away for future reference and safe keeping and I can’t find it! Is there a way I can get a copy of this issue sent to me?

I picked up a copy of The Pe Gazette at the Ridgefield Dog Park. We were there on a very hot summer day when our little Teacup Pomeranian, Dutch Schultz, decided to make the community dog bowl into his own little jacuzzi. We named Dutch after the prohibition era gangster and Beer Baron of the Bronx. That day he became the Water Baron of Ridgefield ????. Here are some pictures in case you would like to publish one in an upcoming edition.

I’m just sending a note to say that I think your publication is fantastic. I picked up a copy for the first time in Long Island on my way out to our Wantagh shelter. I was also nicely surprised to find you in CT this past weekend at a health food store. I am the Pet Therapy and outreach manager at Bide-A-Wee Animal Shelter and appreciate that your magazine is great for everyone.. the in-experienced and professional. As I work with trainers and behaviorists I thought your articles were very informative in a fun, not threatening way…as it should be. I was wondering if you do individual mailings as I would love to always receive a copy of the Gazette. I actually made copies of some of the articles to pass around to my colleagues. Thanks for your consideration and look forward to reading the next issue.

In your recent issue of The Pet Gazette, page 18, (article listing Bruce Cullen), is a picture of a shaggy dog. There are many breeds that resemble this dog. Can you tell me the breed of this dog?

The Friends of the Stamford Dog Park has been incorporated with the goal of raising funds to establish and maintain a dog park in Stamford, CT. There are dog parks in Greenwich, Norwalk, New Canaan and Westport, but not in Stamford. We aim to change that. We have established a website: www.stamforddogpark.com and are seeking active committee members and donations. For more information, you can contact Art Layton at 203-325-4688 or Eileen Heaphy at 203- 425-9782 .
